The decision to expand the NHS AI triage tool follows a successful pilot in Sussex.

According to the NHS, the trial reduced telephone waiting times by 29%. The biggest improvements occurred during busy opening hours, when demand for appointments is typically highest.

The health service hopes similar gains can be achieved as the system reaches more patients across England.

AI Will Also Generate Clinical Notes

The NHS is introducing another AI system that records conversations between patients and healthcare professionals.

The technology produces live transcriptions and automatically generates clinical summaries. That allows doctors and nurses to spend less time completing paperwork after appointments.

Research led by Great Ormond Street Hospital found that AI-powered note-taking reduced administrative work by around 25%. The time saved can instead be spent caring for patients.

NHS Online Will Expand Digital Healthcare Services

The government also plans to launch a new digital platform called NHS Online.

£10 Billion Investment Supports NHS AI Expansion

The AI rollout forms part of a broader technology investment announced by the UK government.

More than £10 billion ($13.3 billion) will be invested over the next three years to modernize NHS services.
