A 68-year-old man has received a prison sentence of more than six years for running an illegal IPTV service that generated almost £1 million over three years.
Police shut down illegal IPTV service
The City of London Police said Milan Ibrahim operated a sophisticated illegal streaming operation from premises in Chorley.
Investigators found that the service used 80 servers to distribute unauthorised broadcasts in the UK and abroad. The streams reportedly included content from the BBC, ITV, Sky, the Premier League and Motion Picture Association rights holders.
Police seized and shut down all 80 servers during the enforcement action. The move disrupted the operation’s ability to continue supplying illegal streams.
Operation generated almost £1 million
Authorities said the illegal IPTV service generated £980,812 over three years. That equals around $1.3 million.
Ibrahim received a sentence of more than six years in prison. He will also face proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act, which could seek to recover money linked to the operation.
The Premier League described the action as significant. Its legal enforcement director said the service ranked among the UK’s most prominent and long-running pirate streaming suppliers.
Server seizure may identify customers
The seized infrastructure may help investigators identify people who subscribed to the service.
Police warned that customers could face fines or other consequences for funding and taking part in copyright infringement. However, authorities have not announced any action against users at this stage.
The case highlights the financial and legal risks linked to illegal IPTV services. Although pirate platforms often operate across multiple countries, investigators can still track their infrastructure, payment flows and operators.
Authorities continue their investigation
UK company records show that Ibrahim previously served as a director of CTU Systems, a dissolved company that marketed IPTV software.
Authorities have not linked CTU Systems to the illegal service involved in this case.
The Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit and the Federation Against Copyright Theft supported the investigation. Officials may provide further details as the case develops.
