Apollo Confirms Data Breach Exposing Social Security Numbers

Apollo Global Management has confirmed a cyberattack that exposed sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers. The Apollo data breach involved unauthorised access to some of the investment giant’s cloud platforms in July.

Attackers accessed Apollo cloud platforms

Apollo said a social-engineering attack gave intruders access to certain cloud systems between July 6 and July 10.

The company notified law enforcement and launched an investigation. On August 12, it determined that the potentially exposed data included names, dates of birth, home addresses and contact information.

The affected records also contained Social Security numbers. However, Apollo said the incident affected only a subset of its systems.

Apollo says client funds remain safe

Apollo stated that no client funds were compromised during the incident. It also said it has found no evidence that the stolen personal information has appeared online or been used for fraud.

The company has not said how many people the Apollo data breach affected. It also remains unclear whether the records belonged to employees, clients or both.

Apollo employed roughly 6,140 people as of December 31, 2025, according to its latest full-year filing.

Credit monitoring offered to affected people

Apollo is offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services. It urged them to watch their financial accounts and credit reports for suspicious activity.

The breach comes as social-engineering attacks increasingly target financial companies. In these campaigns, criminals often impersonate IT support staff and direct employees to fake login pages.

Those pages can steal passwords and active session tokens. Attackers can then access corporate cloud services and collect data for extortion.

Google researchers recently warned that the group tracked as UNC6671 has focused on financial and legal organisations. However, Apollo has not attributed its data breach to that group.
