The Ahold Delhaize cyberattack has forced the supermarket group to disconnect some systems as it investigates a security issue within its network. Although stores remain open, reports indicate disruptions to customer services and employee tools across several brands.
The retailer confirmed the incident on October 12. Its teams are assessing the problem and taking protective measures to limit its impact.
Stores Remain Open During Network Disruption
Ahold Delhaize said it took some systems offline to protect its infrastructure. Meanwhile, the company confirmed that its stores continue to serve customers.
The group also apologized for inconvenience to customers and business partners. However, its initial statement did not identify the affected systems or provide a timeline for restoring services.
Ahold Delhaize operates more than 9,400 stores across Europe, the United States and Indonesia. It employs nearly 400,000 people and serves around 60 million customers each week through stores and online services.
Its brands include Food Lion, Stop & Shop, Giant Food and Hannaford in the United States. In Europe, its portfolio includes Albert Heijn, Delhaize, Etos, Gall & Gall and several other chains.
Customers and Employees Report Access Problems
Despite stores staying open, the disruption appears to extend across multiple digital services.
In the United States, Stop & Shop employees reported difficulties accessing work schedules and pay statements. Separately, an internal memo shared by Food Lion employees described the problem as an IT outage.
That memo warned that affected stores might struggle to pick, prepare or hand over customer orders.
Meanwhile, reports from the Netherlands described problems with websites, apps and customer service platforms at Albert Heijn, Etos and Gall & Gall. Customers of Delhaize in Belgium also reportedly experienced digital service disruptions.
These reports indicate problems at several brands. However, the company has not confirmed the full geographic or operational scope of the incident.
Ahold Delhaize Cyberattack Details Remain Limited
The retailer has not publicly clarified whether the incident affects both corporate infrastructure and individual store systems.
It also has not confirmed whether attackers encrypted devices or accessed sensitive information. Consequently, the available details do not establish whether ransomware caused the current disruption.
For now, the company’s public response focuses on investigating the network issue and protecting its systems.
Earlier Ransomware Attack Exposed Personal Information
The latest incident follows a separate ransomware attack against Ahold Delhaize’s U.S. systems in November 2024.
That breach affected more than 2.2 million individuals and exposed personal, financial and health information. The INC Ransom group was responsible for the data theft.
However, no disclosed evidence connects the current incident to that earlier attack or identifies the attackers behind the latest disruption.
