A widespread ChatGPT outage is disrupting conversations, login and numerous AI features across OpenAI’s platform. The incident also affects Codex services.
OpenAI began investigating the issue after reports of elevated errors emerged at about 10:58 AM ET on September 3. The company has not yet provided a timeline for a complete fix.
Major ChatGPT features affected
The ChatGPT outage affects many of the platform’s most widely used services. Users may be unable to load conversations, send messages or sign in to their accounts.
OpenAI’s status page lists at least 15 affected components. These include ChatGPT Work, Search, file uploads, Voice mode, GPTs, image generation, Deep Research, Agent, Sites and Connectors or Apps.
ChatGPT Atlas, the Compliance API and Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app are also among the affected services.
Codex services also disrupted
Codex users are experiencing problems alongside the broader ChatGPT outage. OpenAI confirmed that its coding-focused services are affected by the incident.
As a result, some users may encounter errors when accessing tools or completing requests. The disruption appears to cover both general ChatGPT features and services built for professional workflows.
OpenAI said it was investigating the issue across the listed services. However, it has not shared technical details about the cause.
Outage arrives before Astra launch
The disruption comes shortly before the expected release of Astra, OpenAI’s next major AI model. The company recently confirmed that the model will launch soon.
OpenAI has not linked the ChatGPT outage to preparations for Astra. There is currently no indication that the two events are connected.
For now, users may continue to experience failed requests and unavailable features until OpenAI completes its investigation and restores normal service.
