The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and AMD have launched a $1 billion initiative to advance AI supercomputers science. Their collaboration will create two groundbreaking systems—Lux and Discovery—designed to power research in fusion energy, cancer treatment, and national security.

According to DOE officials, Lux will become operational within six months, delivering triple the AI capacity of current U.S. machines. Discovery will follow in 2029 with AMD’s next-generation MI430 chips, cementing the U.S. lead in high-performance AI computing.
